El poeta maldito que trajo la modernidad a Colombia
| María: | En la película Un poeta, el protagonista no quiere oír nada sobre Gabriel García Márquez. Borracho y desatado, grita a quien lo quiera escuchar que el poeta más importante que ha dado Colombia fue y continúa siendo, sin discusión, José Asunción Silva. Podemos pensar que el poeta de la película, un cincuentón fracasado, encuentra consuelo en idealizar a un colega que tampoco tuvo éxito en vida. Porque Silva fue una rareza para su época, un adelantado, un incomprendido; un poeta torturado que se quitó la vida con apenas 30 años de edad. Hoy, sin embargo, la Historia lo ha reivindicado. Es considerado un poeta que se supo anticipar al modernismo y las vanguardias, un escritor que modernizó el idioma poético en español e introdujo una nueva sensibilidad. Y, si bien García Márquez es hoy la cara del billete colombiano de cincuenta mil pesos, Silva es la imagen del de cinco mil, lo cual no es poco. |

| María: | Sí. Silva nació en 1865 en una Bogotá muy diferente a la que conocemos hoy. De familia acomodada, tuvo una buena educación y pudo leer libros de todo tipo, de Baudelaire a Poe y Verlaine. También se fue a viajar varias veces por Europa, lo cual lo influenció mucho. |
Las Perífrasis Verbales are the combination of two verbs, sometimes linked by a preposition or relative pronoun, being the first verb the one that is conjugated and the second verb the one that always stays in the infinitive, gerund, or participle form.
There are three types of Perífrasis Verbales:
Voy a comprar unas revistas al quiosco. ¿Necesitas algo?
I'm going to buy some magazines from the kiosk. Do you need anything?
Te llamo en un minuto. Acabo de salir del gimnasio.
I'll call you in a minute. I just left the gym.
No puedo resolver este ejercicio. Volveré a empezarlo.
I can't solve this exercise. I'll start over.
Llevo caminando por más de dos horas. Necesito sentarme.
I've been walking for more than two hours. I need to sit down.
Sigue inflando globos para la fiesta. ¡Necesitamos muchísimos!

There are three types of Perífrasis Verbales:
1. Verb conjugated (+ preposition) + infinitive
In this group of perífrasis, the first verb is the one that is conjugated in any tense and any form or person and the second verb stays in the infinitive form. It is common to find a preposition linking these two verbs but sometimes we can also find these kind of perífrasis without a linking preposition.Voy a comprar unas revistas al quiosco. ¿Necesitas algo?
