Prepositions
I. IntroWhat’s a preposition? Put simply, prepositions are little words used to show the relationship between two words. They usually give us information about location, direction, age, price, time, or possession.
| Location: I was at home. Direction: I went to the store. Time/Price: I bought a soda for a dollar and went home after. |
Spanish prepositions actually function in a very similar way to English prepositions.
We’re going to learn some of the basic, indispensable prepositions. To start, let’s divide them into three main categories - simple prepositions (one word), compound prepositions (multiple words), and special expressions.

A. Simple Prepositions

| con/sin | with/without | Voy con o sin mi esposa.I’m going with or without my wife. |
| de | of | La capital de Venezuela. The capital of Venezuela. |
| en | in, on | Mi casa está en la calle Serrano. My house is on Serrano Street. |
| entre | between, in between | Mi casa está entre una tienda y un parque. My house is between a stores and a park. |
| desde...hasta | from (since) ...until | Desde la mañana hasta la noche…From morning until nighttime... |
| para | for (in order to) | El regalo es para tí. The gift is for you. |
| por | for, (because of) by, around, in exchange for | Gracias por el regalo. Thank you for the gift. |
