The Future Perfect Subjunctive

aa
AA
The futuro perfecto de subjuntivo, the future perfect subjunctive, is one of the three perfect tenses of the subjunctive mood. It works the same way as the future perfect indicative but it follows the rules for the subjunctive.

The futuro perfecto de subjuntivo is formed by the auxiliar verb "haber" in the future imperfect subjunctive tense followed by the past participle of the main verb. The English equivalent of the futuro perfecto de subjuntivo could be, depending on the situation, the future perfect “will + have + past participle of the main verb”, the conditional perfect "would or could + have + past participle of the main verb” or, simply, a present or past tense when the sentence has a subjunctive nuance.

Uses of the Futuro Perfecto de Subjuntivo

The futuro perfecto de subjuntivo is often referred to as a “forgotten tense” since it is no longer used in every day conversations. Its uses have been merely restricted to literature and, especially, legal documents and laws. The present and past perfect subjunctive replace the future perfect subjunctive in most situations.

The futuro perfecto de subjuntivo is used to assert a future event that has already been completed in the future although that event would only take place and be completed if the previous future event has been fulfilled. It is used for unrealistic contingencies that have not happened nor necessarily have to happen.
